Raiders News · Girls Wrestling Regional

The wrestling team headed west Friday night to take part in the 4th annual Girls Wrestling Regional Tournament at Maconaquah HS. Kat Ramsey represented Southern Wells at the 106lb. weight class which was one of the fullest and most competitive weights in the tournament. There were 16 girls at 106lbs. all competing for one of the top 4 spots that would qualify them for the State Tournament next Friday night. Kat fell in her first match by fall to Riley Hovrath from Jimtown. Hovrath went on to finish 2nd, so not a great draw for Kat. She battled back in the consolation round winning by a fall of her own over Rheannon Pinkerman from Rensselaer Central. Unfortunately Kat lost a tough hard fought decision 11-7 to JoJo Myers of Chesteron which knocked her out of the tournament and ended her girls wrestling career. Kat will continue to wrestle on the boys team and do everything she can to help the team compete like she has been doing for the past 3 years. It has been fun and amazing  to be a part of and watch the growth of girls wrestling these past 3 years. There were 140 girls at Maconaquah and 130 girls at Edgewood  wrestling Friday night all competing for the top 4 spots that would qualify them for the State Tournament next Friday at Memorial Gymnasium in Kokomo. Thanks Kat for the experience and opportunity to be a part of something new and different!
