It was a great day of wrestling for Southern Wells on day 2 at the Spartan Classic. With 4 wrestlers left in the tournament they were able to combine for a record of 12-3 on the day.
William Fiechter was runner-up at the 138lb weight class. William was 4-1 at the tournament picking up 2 pins, a 14-6 major decision, and a hard fought 10-8 decision in the semi-finals against Nick Walsh from Knightstown. William had the opportunity to wrestle the #6 ranked kid in the state from Roncalli HS in the championship match, but unfortunately fell 15-3 to Tyce Freije.
Josh Beeks took the tough road as he lost his opening match 6-2 to Noah Wright from New Palestine, but battle his way back to take 3rd place at 145lbs. After the lost Josh dominated his way through the consolation bracket picking up 3 pins, 2 major decisions, a forfeit , and a tough 8-4 decision win over #7 in FW Semi State ranked Tanner Stacey from East Nobleto finish the tournament with a 7-1 record.
Jed Perry also finished with a 3rd place medal at 160lbs. Jed started the tournament with a pin win before falling in a sloppy 15-9 match against Grant Sudding from Franklin County. Jed then went on a streak of 6 straight wins by pin to finish in a dominate 3rd place.
Jacob Duncan fought hard for his 6th place finish in a tough 170lb weight class. Jacob was able to pick up 3pins and 2 forfiets as he finished the tournament with a 5-3 record.
Jed Perry also picked up an award for “Most Falls in the Tournament”. All 7 wins for Jed were falls, as he goes back to back receiving this award both last year and this year.
So proud of not only these guys for the way they battled down at the Spartan Classic, but the entire team. Out of the 32 teams in the tournament Southern Wells was the smallest school there, but made an impact in the tournament! Good step in the right direction as we prepare for the Team State Tournament this next Saturday Jan. 5th at the War Memorial Coliseum.
