Southern Wells High School
Eastbrook High School
The seventh and eighth grade JH boys basketball teams both played their first games of the season against Eastbrook today.
The seventh grade played first and it was a close game throughout. The two teams stayed within three points of each other virtually the entire game with the Raiders taking a two point lead into half time. At the end of three quarters the score was Raiders 36 to Eastbrookâs 33. After a tense final two minutes Southern Wells held on to the victory, winning by a score of 42-39. The Raiders were led in scoring by Nick Lozoya who had 20 points and shot 50% from the field. Jenson Nusbaumer added 13 points on 6 of 11 shooting, Cole Banter had 8, and Colin Green added 1. Cole and Nick also carried the team in rebounds finishing with 7 and 5 respectively. Overall, it was a great first game for this group of seventh graders.
The eighth graders played the second game against a talented Eastbrook team. This was a physical game in which Southern Wells struggled to play through the contact. Eastbrook broke the game open early and didnât let up until the final horn sounded. The Raiders came out after halftime down down 27-10 and made great strides in the second half. They showed that they could keep their heads and run the offense, but their shots were not falling tonight and they ended the game losing by a score of 56-22. The Raiders were led in scoring by Dustin Woodward with 7. Branson Rheinhart added 5, as did Owen Vickrey, who also pulled down 8 rebounds as he battled foul trouble. Will Moore and Evan Reynolds each finished with 2 points and AJ Wright added 1 point and 4 rebounds.
The Raiders next games are Thursday night at Riverview starting at 5pm.
